The AU Student Health Center began offering evening hours from 6-8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays for appointments and psychiatric follow-ups as of Jan. 27.
Students can receive evening medical and psychiatric care at the Health Center now that a full staff has been hired. The health center did not offer evening hours during the fall 2013 semester due to a high turnover of staff, where six employees left the health center during the summer, The Eagle previously reported.
The Health Center will operate with a three member staff from 6 to 8 p.m., including an administrative staff member at the desk, the psychiatric nurse and a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, Theodore Peyton, a patient services supervisor at the Student Health Center, said.
“We have always done evening hours if we have staff to do it,” Peyton said.
The Health Center was not understaffed, in the ratio of students to caregivers, during the fall 2013 semester, but the health center did not have enough staff to allow the Health Center to offer evening hours, Peyton said.
The Student Health Center’s current hours of operation are:
● Monday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
● Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
● Wednesday and Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
● Saturday and Sunday: closed.
