AU Men's Soccer dropped its second straight 1-0 match Tuesday, losing at Navy in its Patriot League opener.
Doug Kurz scored what proved to be Navy's game-winner in the 20th minute, when he finished Ryan Peter's right-sided cross from four yards.
The Eagles out shot the Midshipmen 24-9 and dominated the corner-kick category 11-0. But in circumstances similar to its weekend loss to Cornell, AU did not capitalize on its many chances, while Navy opportunistically finished one of their few. AU drops to 3-5-1 with the loss, and 0-1 in the PL.
AU played without its two leading scorers, juniors Andrew Herman and Peter Philipakos. Herman was serving a one-game suspension resulting from his red card on Saturday, while the reason for Philipakos' emission from the lineup is not known.
Freshman forward Sal Caccavale led the Eagles with eight shots, while junior forward John Fico had three, and several other Eagles had two. AU 'keeper Thomas Myers had three saves in the loss.
AU attempts to get back into the win column against Lehigh at Reeves Field this Saturday. Kick-off for the second PL contest is at 1 p.m.
