Whether a lover of beer or wine...

For the beer lover:

Natural Ice. 12-pack, $4.99.

Anheuser-Busch's Natural family of beers was introduced to the market in 1995. Things sure have changed since then, but the comforting, albeit vaguely acrid, taste of Natty Ice has stayed strong. Unlike other beers that boast of crisp taste or smooth flavor, Natural Ice's sole claim to fame is value.

Milwaukee's Best. 12-pack, $5.99.

If this beer is Milwaukee's best, then one can only imagine the runner-up. Like Natty Ice, the "Beast" is disturbingly inexpensive and, subsequently, tastes more of human fluid than lager. When dad said, "You get what you pay for," he wasn't kidding.

For the wine devotee:

Carlo Rossi Red Burgundy. 3.5-liter jug, $10.

When it comes to bargain wine, Mr. Rossi is your best friend. This stuff is great when served chilled with a splash of Fresca. Sure, you could be sipping a finer wine, but at least Carlo doesn't come in a box.

Franzia Burgundy. 5-liter box, $12.99.

Boxed wine is cheap, unless you consider the price of your own dignity. If you can handle the shame of consuming the unofficial beverage of NASCAR, then go for it. Franzia is the perfect alternative for those who dislike beer but don't mind the implications of drinking a liquid that comes in box-form.
