Entangled in laughter on the web

Ever notice that mid-afternoon lull in the residence halls? Most are either in class or waiting for the night-life to kick in. But they could do something more - the Internet offers endless possibilities for procrastination and a temporary end to boredom.

Here are some random Web sites that might cause a few chuckles, a few cringes and kill some time.

The Best Page in the Universe

http://maddox.xmission.com

With titles like "I am better than your kids," the friendly Maddox criticizes the art of small children. Regarding a picture of a fire truck drawn by eight-year-old Jon, Maddox comments range from "terrible" to "ding ding here comes the s-- mobile." Maddox rants a few times a month about particular things that bother him, such as the movie "Signs" and "politically correct" children's cartoons. Check out this page for quick wit and a barrage of insults.

Real Ultimate Power

www.realultimatepower.net

The MIDI version of Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'" serenades visitors upon entering this domain dedicated to the lifestyle of the ninja. "These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time," the Web site said. "I heard that there was this ninja who was eating at a diner. And when some dude dropped a spoon the ninja killed the whole town." Visitors can order ninja T-shirts and learn ninja history. "Ninjas are soooooooooo sweet that I want to crap my pants." That about sums it up.

The Scene Sucks

http://www.xfightx.com/Scenesucks.mov

This page offers a short Quicktime video mocking fans of metal core bands and pleads with them to "Stop Going to Shows!" The two unknown stars of the film exchange dialogue about bands such as "Death Before Dying on a Twisted River That's Bleeding" and "Autumn Falls of a Godless Winter Death That is Burning With a Hornless Unicorn." One also tells the other that "I heart your car. I heart it a lot." This seemingly impromptu dialogue will leave visitors laughing every time. This video is for all the scene kids who talk online to all the other scene kids about the scene. Teen Girl Squad

Homestar Runner

http://www.homestarrunner.com

While there are several things worth checking out at the vastly popular HomeStarRunner.com, the funniest is "Teen Girl Squad." Popular HomeStar character Strong Bad, who answers e-mails in another funny segment is billed as the writer of "Teen Girl Squad." It is essentially flash animation of stick figure drawings on loose leaf, lined paper starring four teenage girls: Cheerleader, So and So, What's Her Face and the Ugly One. Fans of random humor will eat up "Teen Girl Squad," especially when So and So is run over by a truck with the word "Children" written on the side as Strong Bad's voice yells "Children!" Oh yeah, it's funny.

Man Land 2: The Fall of Man Land

http://www.ml-2.com

How does someone satisfy his or her thirst for a "Matrix" meets "The Crow" low-budget epics filmed entirely on a hand-held digital camera? This age old question is answered by "Man Land 2: The Fall of Man Land." "Man Land 2" (or "ML-2" as it is referred to frequently) is a movie produced by several college students with far too much free time. This Web page allows you not only to communicate with the filmmakers, but also view trailers, listen to interviews and even stream the film itself - boy, does this gem have it all. It's got Christian propaganda, creepy Goth kids AND intense sword fighting. Watch for the terrible acting and overly elaborate fight scenes that are all either sped up way too fast, or in way too much slow-motion. If these kids were the slightest bit tongue-in-cheek with "ML-2" they would be comedic geniuses, however to them "ML-2" is serious business, which either makes it more funny, or just plain sad.
