Wrestling falls to Binghamton 28-19

The AU Wrestling team had a long weekend competing at the Cortland Open Saturday in New York before falling to Binghamton University 28-19 on Sunday.

Junior Daniel Waters and senior Jared Hyman were the only Eagles to place at the Cortland Open. Waters went 3-1 in the tournament and suffered his first loss of the season to No. 6 Brad Christie of Hofstra University in a 3-1 decision, landing him in second place.

Hyman finished in fifth place after winning by medical default to Andy Freas from Kutztown University, going 3-1 on the day.

Sophomore Tom Kneizewski fell one round short of placing at Cortland, with a modest 3-2 record at the open. Senior Matt Pelligrino and junior Adam Montgomery put up two wins each for the Eagles.

On Sunday afternoon, the Eagles lost to Binghamton by nine points even though they won five of eight matches. The Eagles gave up 12 points due to forfeits at the 157- and 165- lb. weight classes.

Kneizewski was the only Eagle to score a pin in the dual meet, beating Beau Bruno of Binghamton in 4:49.

The wrestling team has also announced the signing of Mark Bogart of Blair Academy in New Jersey for next season. According to head coach Mark Cody, Bogart is ranked No. 3 nationally among all college recruits. Bogart is a two-time Prep School National Champion and a USA Wresting Jr. Nationals All-American.
