A memorial service for student Andrew Burr, who died Sunday night in a car accident, is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Kay Spiritual Life Center, according to University Chaplain Joe Eldridge.
Eldridge met with Burr's parents as well as other family and friends to set the date and style of the service. The service will be presented in "Quaker style" so that anyone who wants to is given a chance to reflect, Eldridge said.
"We want to do something that honors the integrity of Andy Burr and something that will be meaningful to his closest friends and family," Eldridge said. "People will speak as the spirit moves."
The service has no set length of time, Eldridge said. After the service, Burr's parents will return to Great Britain for the funeral service.
Burr was killed Sunday night when the car he was riding in was struck from behind by a drunk driver at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Edmunds Street NW. The driver of the second vehicle, Shelly Wentworth, will face charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in trial on Feb. 6 before the D.C. Superior Court.
Burr was a junior international student in the College of Arts and Sciences.
