Weekend Hot Spots

Anti Flag and Co. rock the 9:30 club

Thursday, Jan. 29

Anti Flag with Rise Against, Against Me! 9:30 club 815 V St. NW U Street/ Cardoza Metro Stop $14, 7 p.m.

Touring in support of its second Fat Wreck Chord release, "Terror State," political punk superheroes Anti Flag will bring its acerbic rhetoric and chaotic assault to D.C. Along for the ride are Rise Against and Against Me! All three groups are politically charged and at the top of their games. If you are in need of catharsis, see you in the pit.

Friday, Jan. 30

The Clarks 9:30 club 815 V St. NW U Street/Cardoza Metro stop $15, 9 p.m.

The Clarks, Pittsburgh's alt-rock foursome, are hitting D.C. in support of "Another Happy Ending." The band has been scoring high marks from critics since the early 1990s and has a strong Midwest following. Fans of the Goo Goo Dolls and Cracker should take note.

Wanderlust AU, The Tavern Free, 7:30 p.m.

An upcoming D.C.-based six-piece rock band, Wanderlust will perform a concert in the Tavern that is open to everyone.

Saturday, Jan. 31

Level 27 Fest AU, The Tavern Featuring: 33 West, Stars Hide Fire, Kicking Howard and Cab Assassin Free, 5:30 p.m.

A solid lineup of local and national bands should help make this show a good time. AU band Cab Assassin will be playing its first show, and the event is sponsored by AU grad student Steve Seivers' company, Level 27 Clothing.

My Morning Jacket 9:30 club 815 V St. NW U Street/ Cardoza Metro Stop $15, 9 p.m.

My Morning Jacket has received rave reviews for its latest release, "It Still Moves," a mishmash of Neil Young and Brian Wilson-esque songs. Lead man Jim James will be aided by a new guitarist and keyboardist after MMJ lost two members this week. Don't miss this one.

Sunday, Feb. 1

The Unicorns Black Cat 1811 14th St. U Street/ Cardoza Metro stop $8, 9 p.m.

If watching Canada apologize for Bryan Adams is more appealing than the Super Bowl, then The Unicorns are for you. Supporting "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?", these crazy, synth-loving neighbors from the north - who created one of the most coveted slices of pop-inanity last year and are steadily developing a large and loyal indie following - will bring its zany lyrics and animated stage show to the tiny stage at the Black Cat for music snobs. Don't miss out.
