"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" won all of the 11 Oscars for which it was nominated at the Academy Awards last night in Hollywood, Calif., tying the record for most awards won set by "Ben-Hur" in 1970 and equaled by "Titanic" in 1998. Director Peter Jackson (left) was one of the most honored individuals of the night, taking three of his film's awards, as producer, director and screenwriter. "Mystic River" and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" won two awards each.
The most anticipated race of the night was best actor, which yielded a win for Sean Penn for "Mystic River." Penn, who was nominated three previous times and has never before attended a ceremony, received a standing ovation.
Eagle editors Dan Longino, Dan Zak and Emily Zemler forecasted the results in the Feb. 26 issue and, as a result of a night of no surprises, did very well. Zak correctly predicted the winners of all six main categories, Zemler picked five correctly and Longino picked four.
