AU Provost Cornelius Kerwin will be staying with the University a little longer as the Board of Trustees of Bucknell University chose Brian C. Mitchell as their new president on March 3. Kerwin was one of three finalists, along with Elaine P. Maimon, vice president of Arizona State University and provost of Arizona State West.
Mitchell will take office July 1 after current Bucknell President Steffen H. Rogers retires, according to a press release.
"We developed a careful, thorough search process with the goal of selecting an exceptional leader who could take this remarkable institution to an even higher level of excellence," said Norm Garrity, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, on the committee's Web site. "Brian Mitchell is the right person to do that. He will be an outstanding CEO."
Mitchell previously served as president of Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. Kerwin will be continuing at AU, where he has worked since 1975 after receiving his bachelor's degree here in 1971. He has served as provost since 1998.
AU President Benjamin Ladner said of Kerwin, "He has been an extraordinary, valuable member of my team, of leading the University"
