Abortion debate plays out on the quad

AU Students for Life, the anti-abortion student organization on campus, placed 4,000 pink and blue flags on the Quad to symbolize the number of babies aborted each day in the United States. Members of AU Students for Life worked overnight Wednesday so students could see the "cemetery of the innocents" on Thursday morning.

While AU Students for Life passed out literature regarding the anti-abortion cause, AU Students for Choice passed out information about abortion rights issues such as the March for Women's Lives that will take place on April 25. Students for Life is planning to march in a counter-protest.

"I felt that the cemetery of the innocents was a successful event," said Alan Griffith, president of AU Students for Life. "It also promotes discussion of the abortion issue on campus ... It was successful in the fact that it helped people see the issue of abortion in a different light"
