Men's Tennis splits weekend

AU Men's Tennis split a pair of matches this weekend, defeating Bucknell, 5-2, on Saturday before losing at Colgate, 4-3, on Sunday. The weekend brings the Eagles' Patriot League record to 3-1.

AU started off strong against Bucknell by sweeping the doubles point. Seniors Tushar Garg and Andreas Kulscar won first doubles, while senior Guillaume Tarralle and sophomore Juancarlo Vazquez took second doubles. Seniors Jonah Fliegelman and Ruben Rivero completed the sweep with a third-doubles victory.

From there, the Eagles sealed victory by winning the top three singles slots. Tarralle defeated Bucknell's first-singles player Nick Denefrio, 6-2, 6-1. Garg won second singles over the Bison's Gerald DiChiara by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Fliegelman clinched his twelfth victory in a row with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Asher Salam.

Once AU was up 4-0 in the match, Bucknell began to fight. The Bison's Joe Menezes beat Kulscar in fourth singles, and Matt Pikus defeated Eagle freshman Andrew Singer in fifth singles.

AU sophomore Sebastian Proisy finished the meet on a high note for the Eagles, winning sixth singles, 7-5, 7-5, over Aaron Saperstein.

Against Colgate, the Eagles won a pair of hard-fought battles to claim the doubles point. First-doubles partners Garg and Kulscar as well as third-doubles partners Fliegelman and Rivero won their matches in tiebreakers.

However, AU struggled in singles matches. The only Eagles to win in singles matches was Garg in second singles and Proisy in sixth singles. Fliegelman's 12-match winning streak was snapped when he lost to the Raider's Zander Lowe in fourth singles. Vazquez, Tarralle, and Kulscar also lost in singles.

In losing to Colgate, AU fell a game behind the undefeated Raiders in Patriot League standings.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday at the University of Richmond. They next play at home this Saturday against Patriot League rivals Navy at 2:30 p.m.

Next Monday, April 12, is AU's final Patriot League meet, at Lafayette. The Eagles then travel to Florida to play Miami and Florida Atlantic before participating in the Patriot League tournament on April 24 and 25.
