National World War II Memorial to open to public in May
The National World War II Memorial will be open to the public by the end of this month, according to the American Battle Monuments Commission.
With thousands of World War II veterans dying each day, the commission is trying to open the monument as soon as possible. The construction was supposed to be completed by March, but minor work is still being done.
According to a memorial representative, fencing around the memorial will be removed within the next two weeks so people can get a better view of the memorial. Fliers with the pictorial inscriptions that are still not visible may be distributed.
The memorial is located at the east end of the reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial. The official dedication ceremony will be May 29.
