Students celebrate Independence Day, despite weather's tyranny

A rainy Fourth of July forced the annual barbecue, usually held on the Quad, inside Mary Graydon Center this year. Standard barbecue fare was served.

That evening, the rain stopped long enough for a fireworks display to take place on the National Mall. Fireworks began shortly after 9 p.m. and lasted about 20 minutes. Pyro Shows, Inc. produced the display, according to the National Park Service. Some viewers said the clouds dimmed the effect of the fireworks, still they were glad it was not raining and the event could be celebrated on Independence Day.
