Barry running for Council

On June 12, former D.C. mayor Marion Barry announced that he will be running for a seat on the city council covering section Ward 8. Ward 8's boundaries extend from Pennsylvania Avenue to Southern Avenue.

Barry is running against his former aid Sandra Allen, who has held this position for two terms.

"I thought I had retired from electoral politics, I really had," said Barry during his announcement. "Then I observed the scene in Ward 8 in particular and the city in general. And I was horrified about what's hap- pening," Barry was convicted of a misdemeanor charge for cocaine and charged with 13 other crimes, including perjury.

"He was a drug addict and he has no right to be elected in public office," said Douglass Reale, a freshman in the School of Public Affairs.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
