Reston contract expires

The contract between AU and Reston Limousine, the company that provides bus service for Park Bethesda and the Washington College of Law, recently expired after two years of service.

"We are currently working with Reston Limousine on a month by month basis," said Tony Newman, director of Risk Management and Transportation Services.

A request for proposals was sent out seeking possible new shuttle providers. There have not been many responses due to the price AU seeks, said Newman.

In the past, students have filed several complaints with Reston's performance. These complaints range from scheduling issues, to driver safety and general customer service.

The University has weekly meetings with the vice president and general manager of Reston Limousine. According to Newman, the general manager was "shocked" to hear of customer service dissatisfaction. In response, Reston Limousine pledged to improve customer service.

"Reston sometimes comes late, but you have to expect that with public transportation," said Rachael Valente, a junior in the Washington Semester program.

The company is currently seeking to renew its contract with AU. It is estimated that it will take two weeks for AU to make a decision.

"We will notify everyone when a decision will be made," Newman said.
