Joe Klein, Newsweek columnust and author of the best-selling book "Primary Colors," participated in an interview with AU adjunct professor Pat Dowell Friday night as part of SOC's Political Comedy Festival.
Following the screening of "Primary Colors," a film starring John Travolta, based on Klein's book, Klein talked mainly about past and present politics, elections and media ethics, but he also gave insight into his book, saying that it should be an example for politicians.
"I want to have a president who understands what it is to be a human being," Klein said. "This book doesn't have a villain and that was my intention when I wrote it."
"Primary Colors" is "a tribute to larger-than-life politicians" like Clinton, who "was a pretty good president," Klein said.
He spoke of the lost art of the 19th century novel, and how he wanted to accomplish that again.
