House supports gun restriction repeal
The majority of the U.S. House of Representatives is supporting legislation that would repeal most of the District's major gun restrictions.
A vote is expected to come before the Nov. 2 election. Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) proposed a personal protection act for the District which would end a ban on handguns, remove a prohibition against semiautomatic weapons, lift registration requirements for ammunition and other firearms and cancel criminal penalties for possessing unregistered firearms and carrying a gun in public or in the workplace.
Right now, the legislation has 228 co-sponsors in the House, more than enough to pass it.
