The AU Men's Soccer team secured a precious Patriot League road win Saturday night, beating Lehigh, 1-0, in Bethlehem, Pa., through a last-minute defensive goal.
The goal came in the 89th minute, when somehow a ball loose in the penalty area ricocheted off a Lehigh player and into the Mountain Hawk goal.
AU (6-4-1, 2-0-0 PL) and Lehigh (5-3-1, 0-1-1 PL) played what was, at least statistically, an even match. The Mountain Hawks outshot the Eagles 7-6, but the Eagles held a 5-1 shots-on-goal advantage at the game's end.
Boosted by the return of senior Charlie Koniver to the AU defense, senior Sean Albright returned to the center-forward slot and was AU's most active offensive player. Koniver sat out a Sept. 26 clash against William and Mary with a yellow card suspension, but did return to action against Navy in home match on Wednesday.
AU travels to Princeton on Wednesday before returning home this Saturday for its third PL match of the season, a tilt with the Holy Cross Crusaders.
