Staff editorial: Voice your concerns over end to fall break

The controversy continues on whether or not to eliminate the two-day fall break and increase the Thanksgiving break to a week-long vacation. Fall break is a valued chance to relax, especially considering the buildup to midterms. It would be sorely missed if removed in the future.

The Graduate Leadership Council and Faculty Senate support the elimination of fall break, while the Student Confederation is working to keep fall break.

The SC is urging students to voice their opinions against the removal of fall break and attempting to rally support before it speaks with the University Council on Friday. The Council, which is composed of AU students, faculty and staff, and University President Benjamin Ladner will then make the final decision on fall break's fate.

To its credit, the Student Confederation is advocating the desires of the students and fighting to make sure that their thoughts are considered on this matter. As such, it is avidly seeking student input, giving students an opportunity that would be foolish to pass up.

This is the students' chance to influence the policies that will impact us in the future. The SC is supporting students, and the AU student body needs to support its government in return. Only with student support does the SC stand a chance in keeping fall break on the calendar for next year, so e-mail KeepFallBreak@hotmail.com to make your voice heard.
