Thumbs Up

Strong Women Saturday ... AU Athletics hosted famed activist Erin Brockovich and other significant women in Strong Women Saturday over the weekend. It's great to see events like these on campus. It's a sign that students care about more than just getting wasted on Saturdays.

Election Day still over ... Campus is still coming down from the climactic finish to the presidential election. Though most students are either gloating or licking their wounds, hopefully their experiences with the election will inspire them to pursue further political action.

Start of basketball season ... It's November, and not only has the NBA started up, but college basketball and our own Eagles are about to kick off their season. After three consecutive seasons of losing in the Patriot League championship, this may be the year the Eagles break through into the Big Dance. Be there at Bender Arena to root on our team.

Thumbs Down

Study says drinking coffee increases heart disease risk ... For many students in deadline-intensive classes, coffee can become one of the major food groups. However, this study is a reminder that downing espressos has more of a downside than just sleepless nights.

Lack of advertising for Strong Women Saturday ... This was, as noted above, a great event and a boon to campus. However, it's mostly useless if it's not publicized.

Hockey season slipping away ... The NHL has not yet officially called off the season, but the players and owners are making no progress in negotiations, and many players are moving to Europe and Russia to play. This lockout may be the death knell of hockey in America.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
