The AU Black Student Alliance held its first party of the semester on Friday night in the University Club. Approximately 40 to 45 people attended the event, which lasted until 2 a.m., according to BSA President Nadia Trowers.
The party included refreshments, a live DJ, a spades tournament and a dance contest. The winner of the dance contest was an AU student's sister who was visiting the University for the weekend, according to Trowers.
"The event was successful, but I would have liked to see a lot more people at the event," Trowers said. "The guys outnumbered the girls because many of the men brought friends from off-campus. ... We would have liked to see a more even amount of male and female students."
According to Trowers, this is one of the first social events hosted by the BSA this semester.
"We had a mixer on campus during my freshman year with other members from Georgetown's BSA," Trowers said. The BSA also held a poetry slam earlier this semester, The Eagle reported.
The BSA will hold its annual Soul Food dinner Sunday. The dinner is open to everyone on campus. Tickets will be on sale all week in the Mary Graydon Center for $3. Tickets at the door are $5, but if two canned goods are presented, the ticket is $3. According to Trowers, the BSA has only 75 tickets available for the dinner.
