After outstanding performances this weekend, AU Women's swimmer Megan Thiel and AU Men's basketball player Jason Thomas were named Patriot League athletes of the week in their sports.
Thiel, a freshman, won the honor of female swimmer of the week after an impressive weekend at the Princeton Invitational, breaking the PL and AU record in the 500-meter freestyle with a 4:54.82 time, and the AU record in the 1,650-meter freestyle with a mark of 16:57.87. It is the second time in her young career that Thiel has won the honor.
Thomas, a senior guard, snagged the male basketball player of the week award on the heels of his clutch performance in the Eagles' 67-64 win over Vermont Saturday. Thomas led AU with 23 points and 11 rebounds in that game. In a midweek contest against St. Francis, Pa., Thomas had 10 points and five assists. For Thomas, it was his first time receiving the award.
