Dear Editor:
This is in response to Seth Johnson's "Inauguration day brings out lunatics" article from the Jan. 24 issue of The Eagle: When individuals are criticizing the Bush administration for spending such large amounts of money on the inauguration festivities, it doesn't necessarily mean that they think it's OK that Clinton or any other president has spent large amounts either.
It doesn't matter whether the celebration is for Republicans or Democrats. The attack is against the idea of spending so much money on a single celebration while at the same time millions and millions of people are struggling to find their next meal.
I think any person or politician spending extravagant amounts on money on celebrations is greedy and insensitive. Because Bush made so many references to religious ideals in his inauguration speech, I am led to question whether or not Jesus would have allowed himself a $40 million budget for such an elaborate celebration. If one looks at his messages and lifestyle that exemplified simplicity and giving, the answer is no.
