Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I read with interest Jonny Falk's letter to the editor from Jan. 27. You sound like an overaged disgruntled student who is still complaining when someone does not adopt his idea. The university has a professional staff that is trained in alumni affairs. It is not the 1970s, when people are going to jump on a plane and go to the Bahammas for the day just because you set up an activity. Moreover, setting this up will take more work than it is worth, as the university right now needs to capitalize on fund-raising dollars, not partake in happy-go-lucky corny events.

I am more shocked that you publically criticize a university staff member who no doubt has taken time to evaluate your ideas and simply does not agree. You sound like a spoiled baby who doesn't get his way and now runs to tell everyone. Well, all you have done is make yourself look like some washed-up fool who is stll reliving the days when he was the class president.

Give money or don't give money. That is your choice. But don't start airing your laundry to the community to embarrass others. There is a reason no one is taking you seriously. Your ideas are absurd, and if the university embraced them, the institution would look like a scene out of a B-rated movie. I don't really know Ben Ladner, but what I do know is that the school has raised in the rankings and is no longer the joke of a party school it was a decade ago. Move on with your life. Run your franchising business, pretend you are Walt Disney and make dreams come true. But leave the school alone.

Maybe you should run for block captain of your neighborhood or something. I keep in touch with about 50 or so alumni from my class, and when I forwarded your e-mail around, everyone agreed that you should go back and run orientation or something ... not alumni events.
