AU's annual Founder's Day Ball will be held on Feb. 19 at the Galleria at Lafayette Center, announced Student Confederation Vice President Jason Trombley.
"The theme of this year's event is 'Glitz and Glamour: 1930s Hollywood,'" said Trombley, who organizes the event.
The Galleria is located in Dupont Circle and includes a formal ballroom.
The dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and free transportation will be offered to and from the venue, leaving every 15 minutes from South Side and continuing a half hour before and after the event.
Anzu, David Greggory, Felix and the Palm restaurants will offer discounts to AU students and are located within walking distance of the ball, Trombley said. Palm restaurant on 19th Street will offer a $20 discount off the final bill. Reservations are recommended for any of the restaurants.
Trombley said he also hopes to include discounts from Hair City. Tuxedo rentals will be available today and Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. in MGC 120. The event is black tie, so tuxedos for men and evening gowns for women are expected.
Tickets are now on sale for $20 per person and $30 per couple in the Mary Graydon lobby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Feb. 18.
The caterer of the event is an AU alumnus and the DJ is a current AU student, Trombley said. The band Second Nature will also play from 9 to 11 p.m.
Trombley said he hopes to sell 600 tickets for the ball.
"Our goal is to get students who wouldn't normally go on Saturday evening to come to a great dance," he said.
