If you've got a Valentine, you've probably been counting down the hours until today and relishing in the chance to spend time with your love. And if you don't have a Valentine, you probably considered not getting out of bed this morning.
Whether you love or hate the holiday, it will undoubedly affect your day in some way. Though many resent Valentine's Day as a "Hallmark Holiday," it's been around for centuries, far longer than commercial greeting card companies. You can lament it as a sign of the decay of society all you want, but Valentine's Day is here to stay.
If you do have someone to spend the day with, Valentine's Day is a great excuse to focus on your significant other all day, but don't feel like you have to go all out and spend all your money on one date. Your date should appreciate something original and low-key just as much as an expensive dinner, as long as it's creative, genuine and from the heart.
Also, out of respect for those around you, please curtail your PDAs (public displays of affection) on Valentine's Day, as well as the rest of the time. Kissing's one thing, but beyond that is the shuttle/line in TDR/doorway of Ward the right place for a grope?
For those who don't have anyone to be with on Valentine's Day, don't get down about it. It's just another holiday, and being alone for it is not an indictment of your entire social life (well, maybe for some of you). Just find some other way to celebrate, by expressing your fraternal love for your friends or family ... awww.
