The ultimate goal of student government on any campus is to improve the quality of campus life. While the SC has made progress this year, it has not thought outside the box of the SC. After working to save fall break, fighting to keep the library open 24 hours during finals and maintaining student input on Rank and Tenure committees, the SC has made great strides, and it is up to the incoming executives to keep the momentum going.
There is a lack of communication between the students and the executives. The Founder's Day Ball this year saw an unprecedented attendance of more than 400 students, yet SC programming has not succeeded in uniting this campus in the meaningful way that I believe it is capable of doing.
The key to creating a campus life that is inclusive and engaging is through the implementation of effective and quality programming. One way I hope to create this inclusive environment is by encouraging clubs and organizations on campus to actively participate in a range of SC programming, particularly with Eagle Nights. By combining the name brand, publicity and facilities of Eagle Nights with the ideas, innovation and sheer manpower of AU clubs, we will create better events that bring in more students.
We will send a message that demonstrates what their student government is doing for students.ÿI pledge to attend an event or meeting for every club next year.ÿThis will keep the new student government in touch with the grassroots organizations on campus, opening the lines of communication and increasing the buy-in to SC programming.
New name. New approach. New student government. We need new ideas. We need the perspective of someone who isn't on the inside looking out, but rather standing on the outside ready to pull the campus community in. I want to be your next vice president, because I am that person. Please remember to vote this weekend!
