Their Words: Nick Johnson, SC President

I thank The Eagle for providing space for the SC candidates, and I would like to highlight some aspects of my platform.

Our campus shuttles provide an excellent service, but they are not operating as safely or as timely as they should. A lot of students have horror stories of being on the shuttle when our safety has been compromised, and that needs to stop. If we can create a mechanism by which we can report poor driving, I believe it would make the drivers more aware of their behavior. In addition, the shuttles should run until the last train comes through the Tenleytown Metro station.

The library, while an excellent resource, should at the very least be open until 2 a.m. on Thursday. We also need to look into extending the hours and services overall. In addition, I think the campus as a whole would benefit from a fiction section at the library. While I am not advocating spending thousands of dollars, I do think that a large number of students would benefit and enjoy a fiction section. Lastly, there should be no question as to whether we will have 24-hour study days during finals. We need to end this debate and make them permanent.

Every time I campaign door to door, I get great suggestions. Two girls in Letts Hall brought to my attention that there really is not any place where meal plans can be used from 3 to 5 p.m. on the weekends. Another student in Hughes expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of kosher food on campus. I will incorporate these ideas into potential agendas, because these are all things the SC president can work to change. For more detailed information on my complete platform, please visit my Web site at www.nickjohnson forau.com. Let's get it started!
