Vote Zach Ulrich for SC comptroller because I have proven my dedication to AU students and because you can trust me to work hard. For more than a year now, I have served as Leonard Hall and Off-Campus representatives in the General Assembly. I have worked tirelessly to promote student awareness about the University budget process and have had many late nights with the Government Operations Committee trying to redefine the purpose of the SC through the new constitution. I have also served as associate comptroller before Ali Khan.
Through my hard work, I have spotted several chances to improve the SC as comptroller. First, I will work with the extensive network of colleagues I have developed in the SC to promote a payroll reform act. SC executives currently receive 160 percent of housing costs over the summer, which should be cut to 130 percent, and the new bylaws will cut many extraneous positions. This money should go toward the new Department of Student Outreach and more staff stipend money for the hard workers of the Student Union Board and the Kennedy Political Union.
I want to see the AUTO van service taken to a higher level. This means regular communication between the AUTO commissioner and his boss, the comptroller. The SC pays the AUTO commissioner as much as the KPU and SUB directors (more than $3,100 per year!), and the commissioner must be informed, responsible and accountable. This is your money, and my leadership will foster accountability and organization. My office will produce results, such as advertising AUTO certification courses more effectively and creating prompt responses to customer complaints.
The comptroller also has an inherent duty to work with the secretary and vice president to create opportunities for students to speak on the SC budget. This means having several student forums before every year's SC budget process, so students may come and constructively speak to their interests. I have many other ideas as well.
