Thumbs Up

AU has a Truman Scholar ... That this prestigious national award was awarded to an AU student is a big feather in the cap of the School of Public Affairs. Congratulations are in order to Forrest Dunbar and to SPA.

McDonald's on Van Ness Street and Wisconsin Avenue is open 24 hours a day ... With no places to get food on campus late into weekend nights, Steak and Egg has a new competitor in the 3 a.m. munchies department. Though they shut down their ice cream machine at midnight, for value nothing can beat a dollar-menu double cheeseburger to hit the post-clubbing spot.

The weather ... The weather is finally good enough, and "the beach" beside the McKinley building is open. It may not be ideal to have a pile of mulch right next to the grassy picnic area, but it beats having to stare at the side of an unused SIS annex.

Thumbs down

Africa Week not adequately advertised on campus ... Africa Week included several interesting and enlightening campus events this week. Unfortunately, hardly anyone knew about them. Campus groups of all persuasions, ask yourself: If an event falls in a forest and there's no one there to attend, did it really happen? Promote yourself properly, or there's no point in putting in the effort for the event.

Eagle's Nest always out of soy milk ... It's bad enough that we practically have to fight TDR workers to get soy milk, but it's just about impossible to ever find any in the Nest. If there's that high a demand for it, why not start stocking more?

Johnny Cochran dies ... Leaving aside politics and feelings about the O.J. Simpson trial, Cochran was a well-known and sucessful attorney, and will be missed by his family, his friends and his profession.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
