Richard Durand will become dean of the Kogod School of Business July 1, Provost Cornelius Kerwin announced Monday.
Durand is currently the dean of Lehigh University's College of Business and Economics and professor of management and marketing. Before he became a dean at Lehigh in 1999, he was a professor and chairman of the faculty of marketing in the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
"A person of accomplishment and stature, he will provide strong leadership to the Kogod School of Business," Kerwin said.
Durand was selected after a national and international search.
"Dr. Durand emerged as the individual with the values, experience and talent best suited for this important position," Kerwin said.
At Lehigh, Durand excelled in recruitment and development of faculty, emphasized research and scholarship, created new programs and bolstered the existing curricula, while stressing career counseling and placement, according to Kerwin.
William DeLone has served as acting dean of Kogod since November 2004, according to Patricia Brett, assistant to the dean. Myron Roomkin, the previous dean, left the position to become dean of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
