The Society of Professional Journalists announced last week that The Eagle won three regional Mark of Excellence awards for 2004. Mark of Excellence awards are given annually to college newspapers nationwide.
Eagle Sports Editor Ian Quillen won second place in Region 2 for sports column writing. The Eagle editorial staff won second place in Region 2 for editorial writing. The Eagle as a whole won second place in Region 2 for non-daily newspaper.
Region 2 covers Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The awards were announced at a ceremony in Towson, Md., on April 9.
