Imagine, if you will, walking down the mall gawking at the beauty of little pink flowers. What's in your iPod? The following is a list of suggestions for making picturesque things sound that much more enjoyable, making it that much easier to throw your hands (or hat) up like Mary Tyler Moore, enjoy your life and the things in it.
1. "Lorelai" - The Cocteau Twins Walk in time to this little gem, complete with euphoric nonsense, just everyone will want to spout while beholding those awesome blossoms.
2. "Getting the Job Done" - The Books This one starts off slow, but hold out for it. Once it sinks into it's ambient trap, it explodes into a joyous refrain that'll make any walk in the park that much better.
3. "With Arms Outstretched" - Rilo Kiley This ultimate sing-a-long makes is reminiscent of walking along a flowery path on a sunny day anyway, so imagine what it could do when actually walking down a flowery path on a sunny day.
4. "Playground Love" - Air Sure this song provided the soundtrack for a fairly depressing movie, but out of context it's gold standard. It's got love and it's got saxophone solos - everything you need to enjoy flowers and blue skies.
5. "Golden Lights" - The Smiths Getting rid of a bouncy step or grinning face is impossible when listening to this song, so don't even try. These boys from Manchester may have led the mascara-smeared hair-teasers of yesterday and today, but this song is pure pop and happiness.
6. "Buggin'" - The Flaming Lips This song causes that all over good feeling, which is just what should happen when engulfed in a throng of Cherry Blossom watchers.
7. "Landsend" - Patrick Wolf This one even evokes the picturesque - and helps enjoy the scenes in front of your nose, but also adding to the overall effect.
8. "Who Loves the Sun" - The Velvet Underground A classic. Lou Reed and crew bring some total gawking music, complete with strings, harmonies and other device that make it that much easier to enjoy already beautiful things.
9. "April Come She Will" - Simon and Garfunkel She sure did, folks. And she brought presents! Flowers and love and nice weather and hopes for the future! Beautiful things to fawn over!
10. "Sweet Caroline" - Neil Diamond The beauty of the personal music listening device (ie, the iPod) is that you can listen guilt-free to otherwise guilty pleasures. Neil Diamond could get someone killed or worse, if sung out loud, but when it's pumped straight into the middle ear, well, if it's wrong, I don't want to be right.
