Campus brief: No summer break for campus construction

As the Katzen Arts Center nears completion, AU prepares to tackle other major campus projects, including a new School of International Service building and the School of Communication's move from Mary Graydon Center to the McKinley building.

While Katzen will open this fall, the SIS building is still only a concept. But Gerry Gager, director of facility planning and development, said the idea is moving through the necessary administrative steps and fundraising for the construction is in full swing.

"We're still a couple years from breaking ground," Gager told American Weekly.

Now documents are being prepared for the local zoning commission and a public hearing will be held before the end of the year. A decision on the plans is expected in the spring.

The university is considering six architectural firms' proposals for the SOC move to McKinley.

Other smaller projects are underway over the summer, including improvements on the intramural field, a new coffee kiosk in Bender Library and a Pura Vida coffee vendor in Mary Graydon Center.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
