The Faculty Senate voted unanimously this afternoon to call for President Benjamin Ladner's resignation or removal, and to examine the university's governance structure.
"Benjamin Ladner no longer has the moral authority to lead this university," said senator Philip Jacoby, a business professor who presented the motion to ask the president to step down.
Senators agreed Ladner's spending was not in line with the university's values of ethics and service.
Ladner's 1997 contract allows him to remain a full tenured professor after he leaves the presidency, including faculty benefits and a salary that is always 20 percent higher than the highest professor salary.
Some at the meeting today discussed issuing an opinion on whether Ladner should continue to have tenure, but the body decided to make a resolution on that issue at a later date.
