Sports briefs: Field Hockey takes two on the road

Looking to continue its success from last season, the AU Women's field hockey team (2-0) jumped off to a quick start with wins over Old Dominion and Richmond University.

In the first game Saturday against Richmond, Senior Javiera Villagra netted two goals as the Eagles rolled to a 3-1 win. The Eagles defense held the Spiders to just one shot on goal and held a seven to three advantage in penalty corners.

Freshman Irene Schickhardt notched her first goal as an Eagle off a restart at 1:20 of the first half and from there it was all AU as they dominated Richmond, out-shooting them 13-1.

In the second match on Sunday the Eagles faced a powerful Old Dominion squad that has been ranked in the top ten nationally in past seasons. Junior Camila Infante provided all the offense AU needed, netting a hat trick as the team won 3-2.

Faced with a 2-1 deficit in the second half, the Eagles battled back with Infante scoring off a penalty corner feed from Schickhardt and senior Heather Marnazano at 61:56 to cement the win.

Junior Allison Fayfich made six saves on eight shots as the Eagles once again out-shot their opponent, 12-8.
