Staff editorial: Mr. Ladner, meet the FBI

We would like to congratulate Ben Ladner for not only having his own board investigating him, but now agencies of the federal government as well.

The FBI and IRS have contacted the Board of Trustees, expressing interest in Ladner's supposed misdeeds. We would like to know why, if the investigation has reached the highest levels of the U.S. government, we the students and campus community continue to be shut out.

The IRS involvment would mean the government was looking into falsely reported income, while the FBI would be looking into whether or not any funds were obtained illegally. So what does this mean for Ladner?

Everyday, new information comes to light that looks worse and worse for Ladner. The continual drip-drip of new accusations, and the administration's refusal to be candid, further threatens the reputation of American University.

And why was President Ladner allowed to serve as his own overseer in dispersing funds allocated to the Office of the President?

The AU community deserves answers to why appropriate checks and balances were not put into place.
