Women's rugby tops Washington College
The AU women's rugby club soundly defeated Washington College, 63-5, on Saturday to avenge a defeat from two seasons ago.
The Eagles sprinted out to a 25-0 lead in the first half off five tries before continuing their dominance in the second stanza for seven more tries and a conversion kick.
Graduate student Lenora Stiles, junior Lynn Blubaugh and freshman Stephanie Petrides each had three tries, while sophomores Allison Smith and Lindsey Nugent added two and one, respectively.
AU returns to the pitch on a fall-break tour of New Jersey, where they will play against No. 4 Princeton, another top-20 team in West Chester, and College of New Jersey.
Women's tennis gets 8 wins at GU invite
The AU women's tennis team continued its fall season by winning eight of 31 matches at last weekend's Georgetown Invitational.
The Eagles played Georgetown, Maryland-Baltimore County and George Washington in mock duals (match-ups that use the team-tennis format but don't declare team winners).
Junior Julia Colarusso and freshman Malvina DeLaCanal each won two singles supersets for the Eagles as the teams No. 1 and 2 seeds. Freshmen Ali Harrison and Anne Magellan also picked up a singles win in the competition.
Miller grabs PL top weekly rookie honors
AU women's soccer freshman midfielder Lindsey Miller won the Patriot League Brine Rookie of the Week award for this past week's performances against Towson and Navy.
Miller scored the game-winner in AU's 2-0 win over Navy Friday, her first collegiate goal.
She assisted fellow freshman Lauren Esposito's goal in the squad's 2-1 loss to Towson on Sept. 26.
The award has gone to an AU player three times this season - twice to Miller, and once to goalkeepr Kelsey Wiggins.
Infante starts where she left off: PL's best
Behind two goals and three assists last weekend, AU field hockey junior midfielder Camila Infante won PL Player of the Week honors.
Before scoring the insurance goal herself, Infante assisted on the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 3-1 come-from-behind win at Bucknell Saturday. Then Sunday, she added a goal and an assist to AU's 6-1 rout of William and Mary.
Infante had been absent for two weeks while competing for Chile in the U-21 World Cup.
Despite missing four games, she still leads AU in points with seven goals and seven assists.
