Universities' drug policy

Schools like the University of Rhode Island have begun cracking down on drug violations on campus. Employees in residence halls will have greater ability to inspect dorm rooms, though most of any recovered evidence would be inadmissible in court.

URI is largely trying to shake its image as a party school, but its methods seem extreme. Additionally, if any evidence gathered would not be valid in court, what's the point of such extreme measures?

Private schools like AU are different. Since they are not state-run, the administration has more wiggle room when it comes to inspecting on campus housing. Police regularly roam the halls of Park Bethesda, and contrary to popular belief, residents do not have to let them in. It would serve all students well to know their rights, but also not to set themselves up for trouble.

While AU employees do not key into rooms without probable cause students must remember to use their brains. AU is a dry campus, so take your parties off school grounds, if you must. Our school hasn't had the same problems as URI's in many years, and it would be nice to keep it that way.
