AU hosted a forum in the Beeghly chemistry building last week for students interested in pursuing careers in the medical field.
Speakers at the forum ranged from doctors specializing in private practice to current medical students. They related personal stories about their experiences and offered students advice about course selection, applying to medical or veterinary school, essay writing and interviewing workshops, finances and mentorship programs.
Chetan Gandhy, a medical student at the George Washington University, told students that organization and timeliness were important to their future success.
Many schools and medical programs also stress a "holistic approach" that focuses on a student or applicant's ability to hold a conversation, even about non-medical subjects, in order to turn out "more caring, well-rounded physicians," according to Michelle Covili, a student in AU's Postbaccalaureate Pre-medical Certificate Program.
