Sports brief: Men's basketball scares Huskies, but drops opener, 99-82

After scaring defending Pac-10 champion Washington with a tied score at halftime, AU fell to the Huskies, 99-82, Saturday in Seattle.

The Eagles (0-1) led by as many as four points in the first half and went up, 44-41, on an Andre Ingram 3-pointer to start the second. The Huskies (4-0) then countered with a 21-7 run to stave off the upset.

Ingram scored a game-high 24 points and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

Junior guard Arvydas Eitutavicius quadrupled his previous career high by scoring 16 points.

Washington almost ran away with the game early, starting with a 7-0 drive. The Eagles responded with a 9-2 run on 3-pointers from Ingram and freshmen Brian Gilmore and Derrick Mercer to keep the first half close.
