Four brothers of Chi Tau fraternity at the University of California-Chico were sentenced to jail after pleading guilty for the drinking-related death in February of one of their members, making a gross statement about the irresponsibility of college. students
While at a party, the now deceased student drank excessive amounts of alcohol, and was given too much water by his brothers. He later died of hyponatremia, a deficiency of sodium in the blood. We feel it is a shame that one fraternity's actions further stereotype students across America - those who are part of greek organizations and those who aren't. Binge drinking is entirely unnecessary, and dangerous, but unfortunately happens far too often.
Our school has had its share of alcohol problems. Last year 23 students were taken to Sibley for being intoxicated, and thankfully no one died. Look out for friends, but remember, any amount of trouble is far less serious than death.
