Sports brief: Wrestling wins finale in North Dakota

The AU wrestling took six matches on the way to winning its last dual match of the season Monday at North Dakota State, 20-16.

With the Eagles leading 17-16, the match came down to the heavyweight bout between No. 9 sophomore Adam LoPiccolo and the Bison's Mike Maresh. LoPiccolo broke through a scoreless tie in the final period to win a 4-1 decision.

The win helped AU to a 13-6 mark in dual matches to end the season.

AU senior Matt Morkel started the match off right for the Eagles, winning the 125-pound battle with a major decision.

After two near-falls, No. 1 sophomore Josh Glenn settled for a major decision to win the 184-pound match.

Tom Kniezewski, Rudy Rueda and Christopher Stout also posted wins for AU.

The Eagles were at a disadvantage early. They gave up six points to the Bison because of their forfeit of the 141-pound match.

With the regular season over, the Eagles next face the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships March 4-5 in Bethlehem, Pa.
