Staff editorial: Some workout, eh?

The University of British Columbia recently received the dubious honor of being the first college in North America to offer a course in pole dancing.

The course, being billed as exercise, has become on of the most popular new classes and is open to men and women.

Pole dancing, which originated in the 1970's, has been promoted lateley by Oprah and Desparate Housewife Teri Hatcher as a great workout. According to professor Lucinda Peach of AU's Women and Gender Studies department, pole dancing has deep cultural roots.

Jacobs Fitness Center has said they would never offer such a course, saying it's something older women wanting to rediscover their sexuality would do, not younger ones, as they are still developing.

We feel Americans need all the exercise they can get. After all, a little pelvic thrusting never hurt anyone.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
