1. Choco Tacos The Eagle's Nest brought these tasty confections to their ice cream section and we couldn't be happier. Choco Tacos are boasted to be the "coolest tacos in town." Get it? Because they are MADE OF ICE CREAM! So what if the weird ice cream cone "shell" is usually stale beyond comprehension and the chocolate flavor tastes so insanely artificial it makes your mouth bleed? It's a TACO that's MADE OF ICE CREAM, remember??
2. Olde English 800 This is pretty much the malt liquor of champions, right? Served ice cold out of the microfridge or lukewarm from some hidden locale beneath your roommate's bed, OE 800 never fails to please. Okay, so proclaiming 40s to be a hit is sort of redundant, but so is talking about kittens and the fact of the matter is this: kittens are cute and 40 ounces of OE for something like $1.50 is a budgeting co-ed's dream. Plus, malt liquor is slowly creeping in as the hip, of-age drinker's spirit of choice because frankly, Pabst Blue Ribbon tastes like celery juice.
3. www.themorningnews.org The Morning News is a sweet hybrid of intelligent, McSweeney's-esque writing and intelligent news link collection. Visiting this Web site every morning provides a succinct run-down of the day's news, as well as quality small-press writing that ranges from gut-wrenching ("Mix Tape for Dead Girl," by Joshua Allen) to absolutely hilarious ("I, Servant," by Clay Risen). At the very least, stay in step with the Morning News writer's collective - someday, one of these folks is going to be the next Dave Eggers and you can't miss that, now can you?
4. Destroyer's 'Rubies' Destroyer, a.k.a. Dan Bejar of The New Pornographers fame, has a new album that is laden with his unabashed wit and panache. Bejar is just a little bit dandy on "Rubies." He's a huge nerd and a complete genius, and that makes you sort of want to fall off a bridge with psychedelic rainbows coming out of your mouth and lightening bolts swarming all around and stuff.
5. Over-eating Come on, teammates. We all have a different word for it, be it "binging" or having a "snaccident" or whatever. Sometimes there is actually nothing better than having an entire can of Pringles and a handful of chocolate chips and two cans of Chef Boyardee after a long day of classes. Or going to TDR and then the Tavern and then Eagle's Nest in a two-hour period. This is just our little high-five to overeating. It's a hit!
