DeLay wins renomination in Texas

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) won the Republican nomination in his House reelection bid Tuesday, beating three challengers in his first election since he was indicted and forced to step aside as majority leader, according to The Washington Post.

With 14 percent of the precincts reporting, DeLay had 10,005 votes, or 64 percent. His closest challenger, environmental lawyer Tom Campbell, had 4,049 votes, or 26 percent.

"I have always placed my faith in the voters, and today's vote shows they have placed their full faith in me," DeLay said in a statement. "Not only did they reject the politics of personal destruction, but they strongly rejected the candidates who used those Democrat tactics as their platform."

Dana Reeve, 44, dies Monday

According to USA Today, Dana Reeve, wife of the late Superman star Christopher Reeve, died late Monday of lung cancer at age 44, leaving behind a 13-year-old son.

Reeve lost her husband in October 2004. She lost her mother to ovarian cancer in February 2005.

The three deaths came, as Katie Couric put it on Tuesday's "The Today Show," as a "kick in the gut" - to celebrities, politicians and ordinary people alike.

Eulogies from famous people poured in: the Clintons and John Kerry, Robin Williams and Meryl Streep..

The audience on ABC's "The View" gasped when Barbara Walters announced the news. Testimonial pages popped up on the Web, from socialitelife.com to USA TODAY's On Deadline blog, which, as of late Tuesday, had received more than 450 comments, comparable to a posting on Coretta Scott King's death.
