Secretary and comptroller candidates

Joe Colarusso Class of 2008 Senator Sophomore, CAS and SPA Mastic, N.Y.

In brief:

Clubs need more money and a larger presence on campus. Students need a voice on the board of trustees, students need to understand what the SG is and the SG needs to understand what the students want. The secretary is a spokesperson for the student body, and I am a communicator. But communication isn't all about talking. It's about listening. I plan to meet with club leaders to develop semester strategies to achieve their goals. I plan to develop fast tracks to help student programming on campus, and I plan to conduct comprehensive polling on issues to ensure that your voices are heard.

David Gates Freshman, SOC New London, Wis.

In brief:

I'm David Gates, and I'm running for SG secretary. Unlike my opponents, I'm not an SG insider. Working this year at Student Activities has opened my eyes to what needs to be done: effective dialogue between the SG and the student body; placing emphasis on clubs, school and class councils; and more access to what the SG can offer. The SG needs a new perspective, not the status quo. Check out the David Gates for SG Secretary Facebook group for more details. Friends, remember to tell others to vote - change can only happen when everyone is proactive.

Carrie Johnson Chief of Staff Freshman, SPA Yankton, S.D.

Communication. Cooperation. Change. I will be receptive to student wants and identify problems as liaison to the student body. As chief of staff, I've exhibited my ability to identify problems and find solutions, like working to extend weekend hours in the Eagle's Nest. To increase cooperation, the SG must share its resources by co-sponsoring more events with student organizations and athletics. I want to help groups increase the effectiveness of their publicizing. Change is important. I want students to know what's going on, bring about more diversity and recruit more women to run for the SG.

Robert Donigian Junior, Kogod Nashville, Tenn.

If elected, what will your main priority will be?

My main priority will be to ensure effective allocation of resources to the most deserving clubs and organizations on campus.

How you would like to improve the effectiveness of your office?

I would like to see the position of comptroller change into a financial advisory role.

If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be? Why?

If I were an animal, I would be a wolf because I share similar qualities in that I am able to join and be a part of a group (or pack), but I am also fully capable of separating and surviving on my own.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

My favorite flavor of ice cream is chocolate chip cookie dough.

What is your favorite place in D.C.? Why?

My favorite place is Mocha Hut on U Street, which has a poetry night every Thursday from 8-11 p.m. I like it because it allows me to witness the true artistic expression of the people of D.C.

David Teslicko AUTO Comissioner Freshman, SIS Valrico, Fla.

In brief:

I am a freshman in the School of International Service from the sunny city of Tampa, Fla., and am seeking the office of SG comptroller. I have been serving as the AUTO commissioner for the last two months which has given me insight into the way the administration and the SG function, but I still have kept the outsider's perspective of reform that students want. My platform is "Accountability Counts" because we need to restore confidence in the SG, specifically where your money is being spent. I propose more transparency and student feedback to accomplish these goals.
