The hit list

Five things worthy of your time

1. The Spinto Band

This is a true AU alum success story. Class of 2005-er Nick Krill co-leads this band of buds (based in Delaware) in their attempt to destroy and rebuild pop music in their own image. They're now on tour with latest big thing #2,135, U.K.'s The Arctic Monkeys. With an average age of about 20, the two bands are sure to leave a wake of ripped clothing, hoarse voices and smiling, contented faces. Too bad the D.C. show's sold out.

2. Non-sleazy pickup lines

That's right! They're possible! Behold: "Pardon me - how much does a penguin weigh? Enough to break the ice? Hi, I'm Charles." That one's particularly endearing and entirely likely to induce instant feelings of affection. And here's another one: "Do you like chicken? Grab a wing!" This one has to be executed right, as the "wing" is you arm which the other person is meant to grab. Touching, lonely boys! Please send us success stories?

3. Wikipedia

OK, not exactly stop-the-presses material here, seeing as the Web site's been active for years. But what we at The Scene don't understand is why more people don't post things about their friends. For example, "Jed LeMay: This dude's feet smell of cod fish and he has to think way too long to add two numbers together." Then you can tell all your other friends to look up Jed on Wikipedia and have a good laugh. And then more people can add to it and everyone could have a good laugh.

4. Julian Beever

Following AU's own recent bout with sidewalk chalkings, check out a real pro. Julian Beever has created quite a name for himself in certain European circles for his startlingly detailed and convincing chalk drawings. He's done portraits and representations of masterpieces, but his best works are his drawings that look 3-D. He's done holes that people on the street walk around so they don't fall into them, 40-foot-long globes that look real from down the road and swimming pools that look wet. Check it out: http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever.

5. April Fool's Day This Saturday is April Fools' Day. This should be the end of stupid, childish pranks. AU, step it up! Make this a day that will live on in infamy. No regrets, balls to the wall, pure id here, guys. You want to prop a 55-gallon trashcan full of water against your best friend's door? Do it! You want to fill your least favorite professor's desk drawers with earthworms? It's encouraged! Get out there and do your worst - while accepting full responsibility for your actions, of course.
