As one streak continues, another ends

Women's tennis drops fourth straight, DeLaCanal's wining streak halted

The AU women's tennis team was swept, 7-0, by Maryland-Baltimore County Tuesday afternoon.

The loss to the Retrievers stretched the Eagles' losing streak to four games. The loss also marked the end of sophomore Malvina DeLaCanal's string of seven straight singles wins as she fell, 6-3, 6-2.

"Well, from the start I wasn't very focused," DeLaCanal said. "I felt a little tired and I guess I had a lack of footwork."

Juniors Julia Colarrusso and Brynne Ward went into tiebreaking third sets for their singles matches, but neither was able to beat their Retriever opponents.

In doubles play, Colarrusso and DeLaCanal almost won their match but fell short of a victory by one point, 9-8.

"I thought we had it but in the end we lost," DeLaCanal said.

The Eagles next match is against George Washington Thursday. They are currently 0-4 in the Patriot League but are trying to still finish strong, even though they won't see action in the PL championships. The top four teams qualify for that tournament, which will be held at the end of the month.

"I think we are just out here to have fun," freshman Casey Coleman said. "Everyone has gotten better, so it should be fine"

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
