Former student found dead in Ore.

Evian DiStefano, a former AU student, was found dead on a forest road east of Portland, Ore., last Thursday, according to the Mail Tribune, a southern Oregon news source.

A passer-by discovered DiStefano's body shortly after midnight on an access road through Mount Hood National Forest to the Columbia Gorge, Multnomah County Sheriff's Lt. Michael Shults said. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

DiStefano attended AU for his freshman year during the 2003-2004 school year before transferring. He was co-president of the National Student Union, the only nationwide, entirely student-run organization in the country that was founded in Ashland, Ore. He also worked to register thousands of Oregon high school and college students to vote in the winter of 2003.

Act to limit purchase of cold medicines

The new version of the U.S. PATRIOT Act restricts methamphetamine production, making it harder for students to purchase it when they are suffering from a cold, according to the Dartmouth, the student newspaper of Dartmouth College.

Pharmacies must now limit the sale of drugs containing pseudoephedrine, according to the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act.

The law will limit individuals to buying 3.6 grams of psuedophedrine per day and nine grams per month. The act's goal is to combat personal methamphetamine production labs.

President Bush said the new law "gives law enforcement new tools to combat threats to our citizens from international terrorists to local drug dealers."
